BARBARA COLE’S ONE WOMAN SHOW, ABOUT THE C WORD: CHANGE

Surviving Chrysalis

view project

SURVIVING CHRYSALIS is a one-woman show about pivotal turning points in a woman’s life, from becoming a new mom to losing a soul mate. Cole’s autobiographical story is all at once soulful, hysterical, and steamy; inspiring women off all ages to spread their wings and fly.

Chrysalis Productions and the Hollywood Fringe Festival is proud to present the premiere of SURVIVING CHRYSALIS, written and performed by Barbara Cole, June 23rd and 24th. Under the stylish direction of Amy Mayer, Cole explores pivotal turning points in a woman’s life with brutal honesty, outrageous humor, and genuine heart and soul.
Cole wrote and performed the funny and touching Part One of SURVIVING CHRYSALIS close to two decades ago when her first child was born, about the sacrifice that accompanies becoming a new mother. To help her traverse this uncharted territory, she conjures three diverse and delightful characters for guidance (all played by Cole). There is Joy, the liberated, but addicted tribal drummer who refuses to live a fearful life. There is Mildread, the judgmental and gritty sister-in-law who realizes life is not over just because a spouses life is. And finally, there is the loveable neighbor Tiffany, with un-daunting faith and fertility, who shows us that dreams really do come true.
SURVIVING CHRYSALIS – the sequel (Part Two) dealing with mid life and its impending crisis was written and performed by Cole a full decade later, proving that older women (including Joy, Mildread, and Tiffany) can and do have dreams, desires and a whole heck of a lot of gumption. This second installment led to the “Best of Fest” award at the San Diego Actor’s Festival and entry into this year’s prestigious Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival.
In the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Cole performs the premiere of SURVIVING CHRYSALIS – as a trilogy, fusing parts one and two together with a new part three, based on a remarkable and uplifting story her grandmother’s told about the power of love through the haze of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Playing in the Hollywood Fringe Festival Wednesday, June 23rd at 6pm at the Lounge Theatre and Thursday June 24th at 8pm at the Hudson Guild Theatre, both on Theatre Row in Hollywood. Tickets are $15 and may be reserved at www.hollywoodfringe.org or by calling 866-811-4111.
