This 90 minute Musical Odyssey is a cross between Moulin Rouge and Three Penny Opera. Though the subject matter is dark, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Costumes are elaborate, and the faces mostly painted white. The sets are ext to nothing as we find your imagination is able to create the elaborate and pungent atmosphere, far better than anything we could build with mere sticks and stones. It is night time, and in a dark alley somewhere….

Logline:

Billy, a drug-addicted stock broker, meets Michele, a drug addicted whore, in a seedy hotel one fateful night that will change their lives but, on their way to redemption, they encounter a variety of individuals who help – and hinder – them in their quest for a better life.

Of Interest:

The music is heavily influenced by Tom Waitts, Johnny Cash, and Leonard Cohen, with a touch of 1920s vaudeville and cabaret. Set in a dark, circus like atmosphere.

Patrick Gélinas

Patrick Gélinas, the creator of Rehab! The Musical, is a Montreal-based writer/musician/chocolatier. After graduating from the Recording Arts and Sciences Institute of Canada, playing in several bands in Berkley, CA, Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC, an extended stretch in the soul-sucking world of finance and even a 5-year stint with Cirque du Soleil (which led to a stint in rehab), he decided what the world needed was another musical. A strong believer in “write what you know,” Rehab! The Musical was born. Patrick will also be opening a Swiss-Master Chocolatier store in the upscale Westmount district this summer so please come in and visit him for a tasty treat.

Bones Malones

When he’s not creating the wonderful music for Rehab! The Musical, Bones Malones (yes, that’s how it’s spelled; it works really well in Spanish) hunkers down in his studio, working on his songs with an assortment of like-minded folk. Every now and then, Bones emerges from his studio to play his unique brand of music. Bones’s latest CD, Barn Recordings, has just been released and he’s busy working on new songs for the follow-up.

Cheri Anne Johnson:
Shirley “That’s just the way it goes…Everybody dies, so don’t feel so alone.”

Junkie too “…Come to Mama!”.
Cheri is thrilled to be portraying the deliciously dark ‘Shirley’ in Rehab! The Musical! As a person who has ‘been around the rooms’ throughout her life, she feels a certain connection with this piece. The freedom given to the actors during the rehearsal process to explore and create larger than life addicts was especially fun and challenging. Thanks to Helene for trusting her with this part. Other roles you may have seen Cheri perform in recently were ‘Tudi’ in American Grind at Lyric Hyperion, ‘Ruby’ in Getting Out at Lyric Hyperion, and ‘Maggie’ in Trailerville at Moving Arts. As always, she thanks her lord and savior, Cali-the-Magical-Foster-Cat, for getting her thru the hard times. And of course, the bottle…
