Following the success of last year’s production of LOVE,SEX,VIOLENCE ETC, Pavel Cerny’s Orpheum Theater Corporation premiers another gaggle of short plays by the brilliant Czech-American playwright Helena Cerny.

There will be a total of 6 one acts. The first three under the common title COUPLES, while the second three interconnected plays are called:ON THE COUCH
Helena Weltman was born and raised in Czechoslovakia (today the Czech Republic). Already as a student at the prestigious Prague Drama Academy DAMU, she had plays performed at various Prague and regional theaters. She was also working as a screenwriter for the Czech TV. After her immigration in the US, Helena realized that her English is not sufficient to write in, so she got a Phd in Marriage and Family Therapy and became a very sought after therapist. Still the need to express herself artistically was unquenched and so a couple of years ago, Helena started writing again. She wrote a large number or one act, some short stories and fairy tales for adults. The first collection of six of her one acts was performed last year at the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks under the collective title LOVE,SEX,VIOLENCE,ETC. The show, directed by Pavel Cerny, was very successful both with the audiences and the press, that appreciated her fresh, theatrical, non sit-com approach to theater. The present production is a further adventure on this journey back to theater.

Pavel Cerny is directing theater in Los Angeles for 35 years. He also directed plays at some of the leading stages in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. In the 70’s and 80’s he was the Artistic Director of the Orpheum Theater Corporation on Sunset Strip, where he produced everything from the classics to the avant guard, from comedia del’arte to punk rock and children’s theater. During the last 12 months Pavel Cerny directed three very successful productions at the Whitefire Theater, Helena Weltman’s LOVE,SEX,VIOLENCE ETC, and two plays that he wrote himself, the Vietnam era psychodrama A LOVELY PLACE FOR A PICNIC and CIRCUS WELT, that became both a critical and audience hit.

CAST Lizzie Czerner, Danny Grossman, Kim Russell,
