From award winning solo-performer Fred Blanco, comes this dramatic portrayal of the civil rights activist and labor leader Cesar Chavez. Blending fact and fiction this bilingual production offers a compelling look at the California labor struggle of the 1960’s through the eyes of a host of characters. We see Cesar as he embarks on his first fast in 1968, and is suddenly taken on a spritiual journey with La Virgen de Guadalupe. Blanco embodies a compelling parade of characters from youthful zootsuiters and peasant farmworkers to racist teamsters and angry radicals giving the audience a glimpse of the man and his struggle for equality through his unwaivering faith.
Developed through improvisation and in-depth interviews with those close to Chavez, including UFW cofounder Dolores Huerta, The Stories of Cesar Chavez continues to play to critical and audience acclaim around the country.
