Hollywood, Ca. April 29, 2014 – OPEN MIKE is a moving and hilarious true musical tale about resilience and surviving among other things, growing up Texan, a schizophrenic Mother, dancing at Chippendales, being a Missionary, making it to Broadway, dying-twice, plastic surgery and being cut out of A LOT of films.

OPEN MIKE opens July 7th 2014 after successful workshops at the Lounge and Secret Rose Theatres In L.A.

Production team for OPEN MIKE includes award winning performer/actor, Mike Cline; (Dreamgirls, Legally Blonde, Sabrina, Sex and the City) Director, Randy Brenner; (Off B’way’s “The only thing worse…” starring Dan Butler and Greg Louganis) Dramaturge, David Pevsner; (Naked Boys Singing, When Pigs Fly) and musical supervision, Patrick Kirst-( The American Girl films, The Proposal, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.)

After dying and seeing the bright white light, Mike actually remembers negotiating with God that he must go back because he has way too much to do. In this latest version, Mike Cline (that’s Cline with a “C”, not Kline with a “K” as he parodies to the tune of “Liza with a Z”) has cut away the fat making this show one not to be missed. His sharp comedic timing deftly carries us through tough tales of being a Missionary, surviving rare lesions, HIV and schizophrenia but always quickly moving on to hilarious stories and songs about things such as plastic surgery, Daddy complexes and dancing at Chippendales. Witty montages and songs of doing anything till he makes it on Broadway, i.e., a singing Dr. Pepper can, a Tap dancing Mary Kay powderpuff cheerleader plus trips to doctors and performing while secretly being treated with chemotherapy furthers his angle of struggle and survival. In his magnificent expression of OPEN-ness, Michael Cline conveys his secret to life: to keep moving is essential. His message is clear: If he can thrive on despite his past, so can you…and hopefully a laugh or three along the way.
