GARDEL: THE TANGO SINGER BY JOHN R LACEY

GARDEL The Tango Singer by John R Lacey

view project

On the 85th anniversary of Carlos Gardel’s tragic death, Anibal Silveyra reprises his role as the French/ Argentine singer (most recently from “Gardel’s Tango” production at the Zephyr Theatre), along with his lyricist/ screenwriter friend Alfredo Le Pera (aptly played by Agustin Coppola) whom he collaborated with on many of the most famous tango songs and Paramount Pictures films. In addition, Daniel Edward Keough returns (from “The Tango Singer” original production at Theatre West) as tango Maestro Jose’ “Pepe” Razzano, the crooner’s partner and manager, as well as the vivacious tobacco millionairess Sara Baron Watkins, who bankrolls the star’s success throughout Europe & Latin-America, played by the vivacious Sara T. Ballantine. Joining this great original cast, we add the talents of Deanne Mencher (also from Theatre West) as Maman, Gardel’s french single mother and Mariana Jacazio (from the Strasberg Institute) as Carlos’ lifelong love from the barrio in Buenos Aires. In addition, Alberto Favero takes over as Musical Director to realize the score with some new original songs recovered from Gardel & Le Pera. John Lacey (from The Actors Studio West Directors Unit) directs his play via ZOOM, which will be live-streamed for the first time via YouTube for an international audience.
