My Bestie

This concept is funny and original AF and I so can't wait to see where it goes. A very successful workshop of what I hope and think will be an epic show. Great performances all around!... full review

HOUSE OF ME

Christian is poetic and magnetic and captivating in this show. The way he captures his mom is lovely and haunting, and in particular, following the story of his Fling with a married woman is gripping and felt like I had snuck into someone's private life without them knowing. ... full review

Insuppressible: The Unauthorized Leah Remini Story

A great start to telling a really important story- in an expertly funny way. The woman playing Leah really nailed it and the cast supports nicely. Big fan of the creative elements from the water/fabric, the baby doll lying on the ground and being carried on a platter, the standing bed, and the several super WTF-level weird things. . ... full review

"Transition"

I'm so happy I saw this and I'm so glad I didn't see anything before or after it. This isn't a "fringe" show and it requires and deserves attention. In the current political climate I know we'd all like to run away, but this is an important time to listen. Playwright Ray Richmond has created a beautiful piece - it feels sort of like a love letter to Obama and to the values that sometimes sneak out of a well intentioned but very flawed country. The show doesn't sugar coat anything but it also ... full review

Dreams In Overdrive

An entertaining show full of unexpected and powerful moments of many kinds that hit you out of nowhere whether it's the (spoiler alert) computer being thrown or the very daring costume (or lack of a costume). Dreams in Overdrive is a fun adventure with a serious and important thread running through it. I feel like Jon is the next Rodney Dangerfield- his facial expressions should win some kind of award and his energy is infectious.... full review

Conversations 'Bout the Girls

Sonia's characters contain so much depth I could stay with any of them for the full hour, but her child character was a top fave. This pro can go from hilarity to drama and back again before you can say Breasts. In this charming show she comically shares dozens of synonyms for "the girls" and reaches audiences on a universal level with lots of funny stories and a few serious ones. Definitely a fan of this amazing actress and writer.... full review

Human Hothouse: The Aftershow

There was a big hype about how funny this was and it is even funnier than I expected- hardest I have laughed all fringe festival -. Biting humor, flawless performances, sharp and smart script. This brilliant cast stays committed to the most ridiculous story - but one that is all too familiar and real in many ways- a we follow a bunch of terrible, self-centered people on a tv show (aftershow) - imagine that-- but in spite of their flaws I fell in love with each of them and the ending made me just... full review

Tough Brown Leather

There are two things in particular that I loved and admired about Tonya's performance: 1 she's a badass and she knows it - I love that she knows it -she's immediately revealed to be powerful both physically and emotionally - and even women who are both physically and emotionally strong become victims of abuse in this world- -and though the stories she tells are from her youth, seeing this athletic strong woman standing up there and sharing about how she wasn't in control physically is very mo... full review

Quantum Entanglement

This is a delicious piece of theatre and would be even better when consumed for a second time- cannot wait to return for its inevitable extension. A smart and poignant work of art... I'm happy this show received its due praise around this festival- I hope it's at least among the official nominees for top of the fringe if not the winner- one thing I heard in its buzz, sometimes in the form of criticism and sometimes in the form of awe, was that people didn't fully understand it, but that's one of ... full review

The Edge of the Universe: a Magic School Bus Musical Parody

I can't wait to see this again- I know this was closing night, but I'm hoping this isn't all we get to see and hear from The Edge Of The Universe- this show s the ultimate dose of nostalgia brought to life with a fresh and well thought out idea. The cast's energy was infectious- great vocals from Miss Frizzle in particular. The songs were not only smart but clever especially in their reprises. When the kids came back as 3rd graders I about jumped out of my seat with excitement and I might've ... full review
