"Pure Cinema" was pure pleasure. I'm glad I didn't know much about the story—I had no clue what might happen. Bill Chott's portrayal was pitch-perfect. (I know—I watched "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" as a kid.) Aaron Caponigro's energetic Mel Brooks was a great counterpoint to Hitch's reserve. And didn't Hitchcock love willowy blondes? Lindsay Seim delivered the look and much more. The simple set design had everything the characters needed. (Don't miss that wonderful phone!)... full review

I've been to a variety of black box theatre productions and am familiar on what aspects to expect. So, I'll give my impression based off similar experiences. First off, I love that the creative use of set. Most productions like these expect the performers to give an air of imagination to a more grandiose production and this one did not disappoint. The actors filled up the room and stayed in character throughout regardless of whether they were speaking or not. I think the play was adequate for its space, and the story was very cohesive and tailored to an audience that would be familiar with both major characters! ... full review

If you can't keep afloat amid the unexplained hip references to Hitchcock and Mel Brooks that flood this Hollywood History lesson, it will be a LONG 80 minutes! If you already recognize most of the conversation from the Public profiles of "Hitch" and "Mel", what are you there for? It's all "made-up" history---isn't it?---as it flits from quirk to quirk to quirk! The high spot proves to be an impromptu PRE-created version of "Sweet Georgia Brown", in Polish (!) from ANOTHER ("non-Hitchcock") Brooks picture!... full review
