What I liked

Such a clever, insightful exploration of prison, in all its forms and the women who have lived through it, written about it and can inspire others. I loved how each woman had a bonafide heart-to-heart with dear Bella imparting infinite wisdom and life lessons! The character work was par excellence! While minimal set, costumes, music and lighting were used, each were used so effectively to highlight this storytelling! The attention to detail across the board was just exquisite!

What I didn't like

Bella is a fast talker as she invites you into her world, make no mistake. She’s also incredibly persistent on her journey and can be a little repetitive. Make sure you pay lots of attention or you might get a little confused.

My overall impression

Serio-comedic, Clowning, Literary Heroes, Deeply Moving, Cerebral and Riveting are the first few words that come to my mind when reflecting on the solo show presented by Ann Noble and her alter ego, Bella Ventricle!! A prison, whether self-inflicted or otherwise, wreaks havoc on the psyche and fighting the good fight (aka, saving a tree here and there), dishes out a price to be paid once the damage is assessed. Poor Bella just wants out and has to figure out the best way to earn her freedom.
You can’t help but caught up in the storytelling of this masterclass level performer doing what she does best – captivating an audience one puppet/dance/character at a time! BRAVO!!
