My overall impression

It’s refreshing to see an play that fits in the “Arty” and “Feminist” categories NOT alienate the audience. I am firm believer that to make change in the world, humor and accessibility are the best ways to make your point. ‘The Other F Word’ really allows the concept of women as equals to shine without bashing it in to our skulls. This feminist piece is very man friendly. And to win the war of equality, we need the other side to join ours.

Alyson Mead truly writes to both sexes. Because what’s the point if who’s minds we are trying to change won’t listen? Danielle Ozymandias’s direction takes this “sit in a chair and recount” piece to a lively witty banter between the women. You feel as if you are chatting with girlfriends over coffee in the break room. It’s comfortable. That comfort is what grabs the audience and brings them on the team against a pen. Actress Tiffany Rebecca Royale (Roxanne) was the stand out performance of the show. She is a strong woman who showed us layers of softness and humor. We saw the cracks in her tough exterior and hung on her every word.

I must admit, I am the kind of girl that would buy a pen because it’s pretty and I have always thought of “feminism” as an “f-word”. I have a new respect and understanding of what it means to be a feminist in the 21st century. Feminism will stop being an “f word” and just be a way of life if more pieces, like this one, work towards bringing the sexes together.
