If you’re up for watching someone create something special while flying by the seat of his pants at warp speed, Peter Michael Marino’s “Late With Lance” is just for you.
There’s some amazing improvising going on here, and Marino’s a master of it. We’re supposed to be here for Lance’s inaugural talk show, but none of his planned guests (Liza, Hugh Jackman and The Miami Sound Machine) appear. So in desperation, he turns to the audience for substitute interviewees, and that’s when the zaniness starts.
Beyond the interviews, there’s musical comedy galore and a touching moment or two to round out the evening, with a song about one-man shows that should have a life of its own.
There were people in the audience who’d been there two and three times before, so I’m not the only one who thinks Lance’s brand of craziness is habit-forming!
