What I liked

I loved the imaginative use of stage props to create sound effects and the re-usage of basic props (like tables) to reconfigure the stage. I loved the acting: the deep moments of friendship, rivalry, and humanity. You could feel how the introduction of a new, migrant worker (Kerdzic) offsets and reveals the long-standing relationships amongst an intimate fishing crew.

What I didn't like

I loved the balance of quiet moments with more dramatic ones. I would try to be nuanced in maintaining this balance to achieve full emotional effect.

My overall impression

“Bound” was emotionally intense, imaginative and immersive. The actors were able to create a rich, fictional world with just a handful of stage props and well choreographed blocking. They turned the intimate blackbox theater into a sea-bound fishing vessel, ripe with personal and collective struggles. The ensemble cast had great chemistry; each character was nuanced and well-fleshed out. I wasn’t quite sure where the ship was heading, but I was excited to follow these fishermen as they navigated the emotional complexity of their precarious profession.
