“Hong Kong Mississippi” is the story of a Chinese boy who goes on a hero’s journey to find his own voice in a world filled with abuse and racism. Along the way he meets Cannonball, a brilliant blues musician, and the boy asks him to be his teacher. However Cannonball is a black racist who hates Asians after his son was killed in Vietnam. Undeterred the boy sets out to make Cannonball not only his guitar teacher but also a father figure. A hysterically funny and at the same time dangerous culture war of Black verses Asian unfolds. “Hong Kong Mississippi” is filled with music, funny and sad, poignant and moving, and speaks to America today.
