What I liked

I loved the use of scenic design to physically render a very heady metaphysical concept in a clear and hilarious way. Mariela’s writing and storytelling gave me a fresh perspective on God, life, and redemption, and the ending of her show is nothing short of magical. It’s a wonderful theatrical gift that the audience is invited into, watching a woman experience healing, so that we believe we can feel the same. Its a play that affirms that life is a miracle.

My overall impression

I dare you not to cry. This is a beautifully poetic, intimate, frequently very funny look at the pain of religious trauma, and the resurrection of spiritual rebirth. As specific as the circumstances of the narrative are, the themes are universal and eternal. Mariela is a wonderful performer who not only embodies multiple characters with ease, but brings a rich and textured point of view that makes the world a brighter place.
