Trump in Space- The Musical

SO much fun! Gillian Bellinger is a ball of energy leading a charming cast on an intergalactic adventure through the stars. The sharp script by Bellinger and Landon Kirksey takes regular shots at the Right (and the Left) and is just the right blend of emotionally earnest and playfully self-aware. Do yourself a favor and see a Fringe show that feels like a real SHOW and check out Trump in Space: The Musical. (If you don't walk out humming at least one of the songs, then you are a stronger person ... full review

30 Minute Musicals: Outbreak/Independence Day

With 30 Minute Musicals, you're in for a hilarious sprint through movies that would otherwise probably never get the Broadway treatment. It's funny. It's catchy. And it's FAST. Perhaps the best moments occur when show deviates from the established plot to provide a gag, narrative shortcut, or some wry commentary (their Independence Day's dialogue-free opening scene is brilliant in its simplicity). Tom DeTrinis and Brooke Seguin have once gain assembled a wonderful cast, but they also provide... full review

Poofy du Vey in "Burden of Poof"

Digging into a character's discomfort alone in front of an audience is not an easy thing to do--and even harder to make funny--but Cunningham takes us along for the ride and it pays off. Her Poofy du Vey is indeed funny, but also vulnerable, frightened, and deeply human. There are big moments in "Burden of Poof", but it's the smallest ones that are perhaps the most touching. By the end of the show, as Poofy struggles for a modest victory against herself, you can't help but root for her to win.... full review

NO HOMO

Brandon Baruch's "No Homo" is a funny and poignant exploration of the complexities of relationships--not just with the people around us but with ourselves. The show leaves its audience with a better understanding of a world not all of us are familiar with, certainly, but more than that, its central message rings true no matter who you are: you can't love anyone if you can't learn to love yourself. I highly recommend it.... full review

The Best of Craigslist: Live!

dan oster · June 18, 2014 certified reviewer
Best of Craigslist: Live! is a concept so simple and effective, you'll wish you'd thought of it. John Pick's stellar and eclectic cast don't rest on the idea alone however. They go all out, each doing a phenomenal job bringing to life some of the strangest posts you've ever heard with fully-realized characters. As much a showcase for the talent of the ensemble as it is an exploration of how much insanity there is in the world, Best of Craigslist: Live! is a hilarious and thoroughly enjoyable show... full review

Absolutely Filthy (an unauthorized PEANUTS parody)

I just got back from Absolutely Filthy and I loved it. Brendan Hunt's performance as an adult homeless Pigpen is at once sharply funny, deeply moving, and utterly fearless--all while hula hooping a "cloud of dirt" the entire time! Hunt also wrote the piece making the show a real tour-de-force. The rest of the cast is excellent as well, balancing the heavy material with a steady stream of laughs. I particularly enjoyed Franklin (whose name no one can remember) and Linus (who has graduated to s... full review
