In a word, "stunning". Beyond the inspiring message, creativity and athleticism, the top-tier execution of the show left me feeling like I had seen a Broadway show at the Pantages. An absolute must-see before ticket prices increase to an understandable $50/ticket. ... full review

I have a deep appreciation for the Afro-Brazilian culture as a whole. The play presented by this wonderful cast provided a history lesson on resistance, effects of betrayal, following your intutition, mythology (Orixas), having strength and stamina, and loyalty. All of the characters were able to wonderful weave all of these elements from this very important cultural and historical history lesson of Palmares and what this sacred place respresented. Additionally, I love to see Capoeira on a mainstage, I loved how this art was incorporated into story. We need more of this play!!... full review

Wow. Go. To. This Show. The physicality of these performers is insane. The passionate acting of these capoeira artists is authentic. And the capoeira of these actors is unbelievable. The story is easy to follow, even if you don't know the history of Palmares. I love that it is historical, educational and entertaining at the same time. It does not feel like 90 minutes. The direction is so creative for literally a blank stage and I was surprised with the comedy that they were able to find in this production. All and all, it was just an exhilarating night of theatre. It really is what fringe is about.... full review

It's a mindblowing show! One of a kind. A unique show only possible due to the maturity of the Capoeira Batuque community in LA and the diversity of talents. I'm glad that I moved from Alagoas (the Brazilian state where Palmares is located) to LA just in time to see this play. There is no other place in the world where it would be possible to recreate this play with the quality and talent of this cast. Every capoeirista should watch this show to understand what capoeira truly is, and how it came from Black freedom struggles. Se você é do Brasil, é muito importante assistir esta peça para conhecer parte da nossa história verdadeira.... full review

The music was absolutely stunning! I really enjoyed having the live music play throughout the show, changing with every scene to accommodate the storyline. I also enjoyed the acrobatics and the story itself as I became aware of the rich history behind Capoeira. ... full review

What a wonderful performance! The story is an important retelling of a pivotal moment in Brazilian history, and it was told so well through the performance and the narration. Not only that, the ensemble was self contained with the talent, including wonderful music and top notch capoeira, stunts, dance, and acrobatics that further accentuated the story. Well done! ... full review
